Neither group showed a significant change from baseline to follow-up. Of treated smokers, only 6% (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.5-14.3%) were continuously abstinent in the intervention group, compared with 24.0% (95% CI: 13.3-36.3%) in the control group. In this trial of general practice-based, step-based smoking cessation treatment, no advantage was shown over usual care.
